As far as Let It Shine goes, it seems to have the basis of CoD track; simple but sweet. The opening is nice... sounds like it's gonna be a summery floaty kind of tune (or like On The Road Again , and the intro of Paul's voice is good all the way through the first half (liking the higher notes) But then... well it seems to fall flat a bit. I don't know what it is but the second half, imo doesn't have a great deal of substance and is lacking a little something I can't quite get my head to. Maybe another verse or something :?... and maybe something else to accompany the intro of the high synth notes dropped in? It feels like it should carry on for longer...hmm...

I wouldn't say it is the best of this year so far, but there is definitely potential for a genuinely lovely song to come out of it. I'm gonna go and listen a few more times to clarify my vagueness... overall; it's a nice track, to me, not amazing but still not bad either.

The Black Lab 'label' shouldn't worry you, Paul. While across YBAM, STS and PLAT there is a distinct diversity (that other bands would murder for...) between the main records, there is something that, along with all the other bits and bobs like the MP3 Club and Technologie, runs through. I guess all I'm saying it's clear that you will never have the 'marketing zombie' mentality, which is fortunate in this day and age.

Hell... you have plenty of people enjoying the ride so far!

P.S. Writing this I have listened to Let it Shine 8 times already, and it is a bit of a grower on repeat... that's why I think it should go for a bit longer perhaps... just my opinion!

I think I agree. I do like the vibe of the chorus, with Paul's voice rising up out of, well, Paul's voices I guess. But it does get a bit repetitive. Not bad as a demo, maybe, but lacking something as a song. I found the intro to be pretty shocking with all the high notes. It really does seem like every month or every other month Paul gives us something unexpected, and this is way out there as far as that goes.

On another note: Congratulations, Andy!

Yeah totally! All the best Andy! :D

I think the track just needs a bit of tweaking... I agree with fluffy the start is a bit out there, but I mean we've had stuff "out there" in the past that has turned into a quality tune. At the end of the day, that's what the Club is all about I guess, experimentation etc, and it's led to some great stuff, and also not-so-great stuff. The vibe of the song is really good... just on it's own at the moment it just does seem repetitive in the 2nd half and seems to end quite abruptly. I stand by what I said that this has the potential to be a really lovely song...

Good tune.

'grats to Andy!

I look forward to whatever is coming next, whether it be more electro, or classic [b]

I'm digging this one a lot as I rack up the listens on repeat. I do agree that it seems to be missing something in the middle, like a second verse or such.

Congratulations to Andy!

congrats Andy!

Paul, if you're that worried about the "brand", you could always release the b-sides album ya know :P

Crap, I haven't been here in forever. I've been spending my evenings, uh, organizing my Firefox bookmarks. Now that I've shown my true nerdiness...

"Call" is in my opinion the best thing to come out of all 3 years of the club so far, and my girlfriend would like me to tell you that she really effin loves "Candlelight." Both of those songs we would love to see tweaked and end up on a future release. We're pretty diehard fans of anything PD-related, but our standards are insane... so you done good. ;)

The jury is still out on "Let It Shine," though. I think I agree with the person/people who said it sounded very COD. I'm not quite sure what to think of it yet. As for everything that came between "Call" and "Candlelight" - well, I've been focusing so much on those particular tracks that I haven't devoted the listening that I should to the rest. Those two are just the standouts from this year thus far for us.

yes, like a lot of things that get thrown up here, "Let it Shine" is just a sketch. you can tell I got impatient with the writing thing and wanted to get on the turning-knobs-and-watching-blinky-lights part of the process, pretentiously known as production. figured I could always go back and, you know, actually write the song.

Man... it's time again for me to check the forum every day (hour... I'll be honest) and repeatedly look at my emails... I'm twiddling my thumbs in anticipation :D

For whatever reason, I only get the emails sporadically (I have it sent to my former campus email and they are notoriously cranky) so I just surf the page and wait for a happy accident. :)

Yeah I'm exactly the same! I never trust my email so I check every possibility... then check again... and again...

Any heads up on when we're likely to get the track? I'm itching

Widescreen. First reaction--what a fun, high energy track! It almost has a 50s feel underneath it's modern synthetic skin...and I love that screaming guitar, even if it is faded to the background. Def gonna have to listen to this one again and again...it just seems fun!

Wow! I woke up pretty bleary eyed this morning, but Widescreen has damn well woke me up!

Certainly agree with what SleepsWithAngels said... there is some sort of old school vibe underneath it - though personally the very first thing I thought was '60s, sort of The Who or something like that. But then with Paul drawling out the words and the heavy rawkin' out guitar (which covers this '60s feel) sounds more like Oasis, especially the guitar that comes in right at the very end 8)

Overall, an absolute screamer of a track. Great fun (as has been said)... along the same line as tracks from REMs new album... short, punchy and one of those tracks that wants you to jump around air-guitaring...

...well me anyway

Thanks again Paul!!
