As far as
Let It Shine goes, it seems to have the basis of CoD track; simple but sweet. The opening is nice... sounds like it's gonna be a summery floaty kind of tune (or like
On The Road Again , and the intro of Paul's voice is good all the way through the first half (liking the higher notes) But then... well it seems to fall flat a bit. I don't know what it is but the second half, imo doesn't have a great deal of substance and is lacking a little something I can't quite get my head to. Maybe another verse or something

... and maybe something else to accompany the intro of the high synth notes dropped in? It feels like it should carry on for longer...hmm...
I wouldn't say it is the best of this year so far, but there is definitely potential for a genuinely lovely song to come out of it. I'm gonna go and listen a few more times to clarify my vagueness... overall; it's a
nice track, to me, not amazing but still not bad either.
The Black Lab 'label' shouldn't worry you, Paul. While across YBAM, STS and PLAT there is a distinct diversity (that other bands would murder for...) between the
main records, there is something that, along with all the other bits and bobs like the MP3 Club and Technologie, runs through. I guess all I'm saying it's clear that you will never have the 'marketing zombie' mentality, which is fortunate in this day and age.
Hell... you have plenty of people enjoying the ride so far!
P.S. Writing this I have listened to
Let it Shine 8 times already, and it is a bit of a grower on repeat... that's why I think it should go for a bit longer perhaps... just my opinion!
