I was at a local carnival last night, and was sitting at a picnic table with my husband and our son who is 3. I turn around to watch my niece climb the rock wall and I see a guy laying on the ground, having a seizure. Not even 25 feet away from him were several people, who were watching him. Not helping him, just watching him. So I run over to him with my kid in my arms while my husband went to get help. No one else came over, or offered to help in any way. It really pissed me off. Really fucking pissed me off.

That IS disturbing! People have become so detached from common sense, from a sense of kindred and respect for fellow human beings. It's sad.

At least you and your husband helped. Everything turn out ok?

I'm not sure. They put him in the ambulance and he seemed ok when they left. I don't understand it. If one of those guys was having a seizure I'm sure they would want someone to help them. I mean, do unto others, right?

That's pretty scary and it is crazy that nobody did anything. I'm sure I'd have had my initial shock, too, but to just stand by and not do anything at all?

someone should have gone to get help, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do anything to the person when they're having a seizure. you're supposed to let it run its course I believe. You should move anything out of the way, but you're not supposed to try and restrain them or put anything (like medicine) in their mouth. You can try to put them on their side and should once the seizure is done.

My cousin has epilepsy, so I knew that I couldn't really do anything. But I went and sat by him so that no one would step on him, or that he wouldn't get hurt.

That's utter madness! I swear, a person is fine and acts normally... but get a bunch of general random people together and they all turn into mindless morons :?

I hope everything was OK?

Well, I would've called an ambulance, to do the least.

It's good that you went for help. From what I know of epilepsy (not that much) you did the right thing. A full tilt seizure is a pretty scary thing to witness if you don't know what's going on.
