I scanned through the forum and didn't see a topic like this, so I have to ask, what other bands does everybody enjoy? Of course we all love the Lab or we wouldn't be posting here, but what about everything else? Is it similar? Completely different?
My #1 band of all-time would have to be
LIVE. I will be the first one to say that each subsequent album since 2001 has progressively gotten worse...but the music released on their first four ranks among some of the greatest music recorded as far as I'm concerned, especially 1999's
The Distance to Here. I saw them for the ninth time since 1997 (I was 11!) a few weeks ago here in Columbus, along with Collective Soul. The reason I'm such a fan still is because I think they put on the best live show you'll ever see.
They're releasing their first official live CD and DVD this fall, so I'm pumped for that. The CD portion will also include brand new studio material that Ed says he's excited to share with the fans to give them a direction of where they're going with the upcoming 2009 studio release. Hopefully it'll be a throwback to the 90's but I won't hold my breath.
Collective Soul I'd probably rank right behind Black Lab. I was always a casual fan who enjoyed their radio hits, but when I saw them in concert for the first time back in '05, I was blown away. They're another band who sounds better live than they do on their albums, even though that's good stuff, as well. I was spoiled back in '05, seeing them three times between September and December. I didn't get to see them again until the show with LIVE a few weeks back and it was worth the wait.
And finally, I love me some
Better Than Ezra. Their music may not be as deep as some of my other bands can be, but it's fun music. I always enjoy BTE when I'm looking to have a good time or I'm just cruisin' on the highway.
Kevin is apparently working on a solo album which will be available by the end of the year. This will be followed by a long-awaited BTE album sometime in 2009 (which will have been a four year wait). I can't wait for these.
Toad the Wet Sprocket is another band I've always loved and their lead singer
Glen Phillips still puts out great music. I was lucky enough to see the band on a reunion tour a few years ago.
Gin Blossoms and
Dishwalla are two more that get a lot of plays from me. Again, looking forward to the lead singer of Dishwalla,
J.R. Richard's, upcoming solo album which he just finished mixing.
How about you guys?
