Sara’s new tattoo
The ballad of @buhnyfoofoo ‘s new tattoo, in four photos.
I went to North Carolina to play a house concert for Sara and Adam. Sara is a long-time fan and devoted supporter. She’s also a handful, and she did not disappoint on this trip.
After she and Adam took me out to dinner at a rooftop bar, Sarah said, “should we go get me that tattoo?” It was 9:30 pm.
I didn’t know what tattoo she was talking about, but apparently she did. So we walked over to Hardwire. She signed up (pic 1) and I wrote out the lyrics she wanted. Sid made a stencil (pic 2) and did the work using his exquisite COVID mask (pic 3). The finished work and happy father (pic 4).
Sid was both absolutely lovely and absolutely terrifying, as a good tattoo artist should be.
It feels a little strange having one’s words emblazoned forever on another person’s skin, a bit flattering and a bit frightening. These words from ‘Circus Lights’ have always been special to me, along with the second half of the phrase:
“I’ll be tattooed man, you can be the acrobat / I’ll try and catch you when you fall”
I love that they’re there on Sara’s shoulder.
